Most founders do the opposite. They spend all their energy crafting the perfect question while giving AI zero context about who they are, what their company does, or what they have already tried. Then they wonder why the output is generic.

Ask Claude “Write me an email to a prospect” and you get corporate boilerplate. Paste your company context first - who you are, what you sell, who you sell to, your competitors, your voice - and the same question produces something you can actually send.

Eight fields. Keep each to one or two sentences.

  1. Company: Name and stage (seed, Series A, profitable, etc.)
  2. What you do: One sentence. If you need two, your positioning is unclear.
  3. Target customers: Who you sell to, specifically
  4. Value proposition: Why customers choose you over alternatives
  5. Competitors: Top three direct competitors
  6. Traction: Current numbers - customers, revenue, growth rate
  7. Key metrics: What you are focused on measuring right now
  8. Voice: How you communicate - casual, formal, technical, friendly

This gets pasted at the start of every prompt. AI immediately understands your context instead of starting from zero. The difference in output quality is dramatic. Basically night and day.

Update it monthly. Your traction changes. Your metrics shift. Your competitors evolve. A stale context document produces stale output.

From single prompts to prompt chains

Single prompts hit a ceiling. The question “Analyse our competitive landscape” produces a generic overview no matter how much context you provide. Chaining produces something worth reading.

Prompt chaining works because it mirrors how humans actually think through complex problems. Nobody sits down and produces a complete go-to-market strategy in one uninterrupted thought. You research first, then identify gaps, then develop positioning, then define your audience, then pick channels, then write messaging. Each step builds on what you learned in the previous one, and you course-correct along the way. When you give AI a single massive prompt, you’re asking it to do all of that in one pass without any checkpoints. The output looks complete but it’s built on assumptions you never validated. Chaining forces deliberation at each stage, and that deliberation is where the real quality comes from. It’s slower per step but dramatically better per outcome.

Customer discovery chain (3 steps):

  • Step 1: “Here are transcripts from five customer calls. What are the common pain points mentioned?”
  • Step 2: “Looking at these patterns, what are the MOST frequently mentioned pains? Rank them by frequency and intensity.”
  • Step 3: “Based on this ranking, summarise key learnings and generate 10 refined questions for next round of interviews.”

Each step builds on the previous. You review between steps. You catch errors early instead of at the end.

Go-to-market strategy chain (6 steps):

  • Step 1: Analyse competitor positioning, language, and messaging
  • Step 2: Identify customer needs NOT addressed by any competitor
  • Step 3: Define how you can own one of those gaps
  • Step 4: Create an ideal customer profile based on that positioning
  • Step 5: Identify proven and differentiated channels for that ICP
  • Step 6: Design messaging and copy for each recommended channel

Three reasons chaining works better than single prompts. First, it prevents incorrect assumptions because each step validates before moving forward. Second, it gives you control - you can redirect between any steps. Third, the output is deeper because building incrementally creates more connected thinking than a single massive request.

As the course materials frame it: “Think of it as collaborative work, not magic automation.”

Claude Projects as organizational memory

Here is something that I think is genuinely undervalued. When a senior employee leaves your company, their prompt patterns leave with them. The questions they knew to ask, the context they added, the chains they built - all of it walks out the door.

Content creation prompts. Blog posts, LinkedIn articles, newsletters, product descriptions. All following the voice profile from your voice work. Without the voice profile, these produce generic content. With it, they produce drafts worth editing.

Operations prompts. SOP creation with quality checks and troubleshooting guides for any repeatable process. Meeting summary templates. Project update formats. These are the boring-but-valuable category that most libraries skip.
